STERETT-GITTINGS  KELSEY   American Sculptor

Kelsey was born in Greenwich Connecticut in 1941. Twenty three years later she graduated with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in1964 and has worked nonstop  at her craft ever since. Kelsey works, primarily in bronze with sculptures ranging from three inches to twenty two feet in height. She is the leading sculptor of dance in the world today.  The Kelsey bronzes  are owned by major collectors and connoisseurs of  " Investment-level Fine Art ".  These masterworks in bronze can be found in more than 300 public and private collections worldwide.

The Kelsey sculptures are hand-made from start to finish. The transformation from Kelsey's clay original, into a masterpiece in bronze, is a long and expensive process.  A new ceramic mold is handmade for each sculpture.  This mold  is used only once.... then...  it is destroyed in the casting process.  There are about thirty five steps which each work passes through on the way to becoming a completed work of art.  Each sculpture bears: the copyright symbol:  The artist's logo: the artist's name: date of origin: foundry mark;  and the edition number.

Richard Polich, founder of the world's  leading  Fine Art  Foundy: Polich-Tallix  in Rock Tavern New York,  has enjoyed a special 40 year relationship with the artist.  Together they work as a team to produce the Kelsey Bronzes in the finest registered foundry bronze available.  Although primarily known for her exquisite dance figures, Kelsey  also  produces: Sports Figures and full length Portraits in Bronze of Children; Dancers; Mothers with Children; male and female Nude Studies ; Garden Sculptures and Bronze Memorials. It is also noted that Kelsey  has created sixteen new porcelain figuerines for the venerable Danish Company: Royal Copenhagen.  As of January 2007, there are more than 278 finished original sculptures and  counting.  It can now be said that the Kelsey's sculptures are truly Global Residents.

" Balanchine's-Dancer-Elise-Gillet-Boyce-Kelsey " ... a recently completed, life-sized work in Bronze by Kelsey, was introduced  in Greenwich Connecticut,  More than 400 people attended her "Coming Out Party"   This lovely little dancer was created  with the sensative body proportions which choreographer George Balanchine thought to be ideal for dance.
